Where has the slice backhand in the women's game gone?

After Steffi Graf won 23 Grand Slams with only a slice backhand it seems no one has followed in her footsteps. Is this because the slice would not work in the women's game now there is so much power? Or is it because the women are trying to follow the Williams sisters power tennis? Or is it because players like Sharapova, Safina etc don't have the movement like Steffi and thus have to stay on top of the points. Or is it that coaches are not coaching these shots?

  1. Hey Tom, I like your new site.
I think it is a shame that the slice is taking a backseat to POWER. I mainly think it is not used because the women's game is confused about the POWER thing. It is as if they don't understand what POWER really is about. POWER to me is about forcing my opponet in to a tough position causing a weak reply.(the slice can do this especially against power hitter who like the faster strikezone balls and rhythm) It seems like the women think POWER is about MPH.
